This will make your line straight. e.g you might experience or seen that when people in army or students in school make a line then they keep their line straight by looking at necks in front of them. Same thing you can keep your line straight by looking at your feet and necks from left to right. That is basic rule and anyone can understand with a little practice or thinking.
